

The City of Wadsworth, Ohio is the namesake of Revolutionary War General Elijah Wadsworth. Founded in 1814, the city was officially named after General Wadsworth in 1818. Wadsworth was the largest land owner of the new settlement and also related to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
Located in the southeast corner of Medina County, Wadsworth combines small town charm with all of the modern amenities and utilities a full service city can provide. The City of Wadsworth has owned and operated its own electric distribution system since 1916 and serves over 12,000 customers. The municipal system provides free street lighting and free electricity for city operations, and presently has seven substations. Wadsworth is a RP3 Recipient and participates in the following AMP projects: Business/Economic Development, Efficiency Smart, Hydro Project Phase 1 & 2, Landfill Gas Energy, MESA, Mutual Aid, Natural Gas Aggregation, OMEGA JV1, OMEGA JV2, OMEGA JV5, and OMEGA JV6.

Wadsworth Communications provides cost effective High Speed Internet and Video services to the Wadsworth, Ohio area. In addition to cable modem services, business class circuits are also offered via direct fiber. All design, construction and service is provided “in-house” allowing for communication possibilities not found in most other communities. Wadsworth is also a major connection point in the Medina County fiber project that will build a 150 mile loop around Medina County and connect to Post Office Protocols (POPs) in Cleveland and Akron.
Wadsworth hosts an annual five-day celebration named the Blue Tip Festival. It starts with a parade and the lighting of a 20-foot-high, blue-tip match, which lights downtown Wadsworth during the festival’s duration. The Blue Tip Festival is named after the historic strike-anywhere blue tip matches which were once manufactured in Wadsworth.
