Danville, Virginia
The River City, Where Innovation Flows
The City of Danville is situated along the Dan River in south-central Virginia along the Virginia-North Carolina border. The city of 45,586 residents is the second-largest American Municipal Power member community in terms of residential and commercial meters. Danville Utilities serves a 500-square mile electric service territory extending well beyond the city limits. It’s the largest of 15 municipal electric power distributors in Virginia, one of only three natural gas distributors, one of few telecommunication service providers, and the only municipality in Virginia doing it all!
Founded in 1792 by William Byrd, the city sports a mix of both historic and modern residential and commercial architecture as well as an active business district.
The city recently was recognized for its development of a specialized fiber optic network along with the city’s economic partnership with Pittsylvania County by a worldwide broadband organization.
Danville has adopted the council/manager form of government. Major corporations that make Danville home include Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Swedwood and Nestle. Also, Danville supports several higher educational campuses along with a wide range of foodstuff, retail, banking and health care industries. Its close proximity to major highway and rail transportation centers, a moderate climate, low business costs, attractive corporate taxes and a highly skilled workforce make Danville an attractive corporate location.
