KANSAS CITY, MO./COLUMBUS, OH — American Municipal Power (AMP) has selected the project team of Ramco/Burns & McDonnell to provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for the American Municipal Power Generating Station (AMPGS) a new 600-megawatt combined cycle gas turbine power facility to be located in Meigs County, near Letart Falls in southern Ohio.

Engineering design will commence immediately. The plant is expected to be in service in 2014.

The power facility will be comprised of two combustion gas turbines (CGTs), two supplementary-fired heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) and one steam turbine generator (STG). The facility is expected to operate in a daily cycling mode with capability of extended operations.

“The team of Burns and McDonnell and Ramco brings a wealth of experience and expertise in power generation design and construction to this project,” AMP President/CEO Marc Gerken said. “The AMPGS project will be a valuable asset to our participating member communities, and we look forward to working with the EPC team.”

The project remains dependent upon the successful final negotiation of appropriate tax abatements, economic and infrastructure incentives, construction contracts and pricing, as well as a successful effort by AMP to subscribe the project to its member municipal electric systems. AMP and the Burns and McDonnell/Ramco team are currently negotiating a lump-sum turn-key fixed-price contract.

Founded in 1971, AMP is a member-owned, not-for-profit corporation that owns and/or operates generation and related facilities for 128 municipally-owned utilities located in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Virginia, Kentucky and West Virginia. By coordinating, negotiating and developing power supply options and interconnection agreements, AMP is able to purchase wholesale electric power and energy and sell it to members at rates based on its purchase price and dispatch fees.
