Columbus – The village of Georgetown, Ohio has become the newest member of American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP). The AMP Board of Trustees recently approved the application accepting the southwest Ohio community as the 130th member of the organization.

AMP is the wholesale power supplier and services provider for publically-owned electric utilities in seven states. The organization was formed in 1971 with 26 members, all from Ohio, and has grown substantially both in membership and in services offered. Georgetown becomes the 83rd member from Ohio.

“We are pleased to welcome Georgetown to the AMP membership,” AMP President/CEO Marc Gerken said. “Several years ago, the AMP Board established criteria for membership that has guided the organization’s growth and continues to ensure the financial stability of AMP and its members. The partnership between AMP and its members is beneficial to all. We look forward to working with the utility in meeting the challenges of a complicated and ever-changing industry. Additionally, the economies of scale and further diversification benefit all AMP members.”

As the county seat of Brown County, Georgetown has a population of approximately 4,330. The electric system was established in 1907 and serves 2,159 total meters. Former U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant grew up and attended grade school in the village.
