Annual award recognized outstanding leader and manager

COLUMBUS, OH: Kimberly Schlichting, chief operating officer and senior vice president of power supply at Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation (DEMEC), was named the 2019 recipient of the prestigious Mark Crisson Leadership and Managerial Excellence Award during the American Public Power Association (APPA) national conference in Austin, Texas, on June 12.

This award recognizes managers at any level of a public power utility, joint action agency, or state or regional association who brings their organization to new levels of excellence; leads by example; and inspires their employees and staff to improve processes services and operations.

Schlichting has worked in public power for 25 years, serving in increasingly responsible management positions. Her leadership and successful public relations strategies within DEMEC helped to defeat growing member system buy-out offers and increased support for public power. Additionally, Schlichting’s leadership in legislative advocacy has raised the awareness of and support for public power in the Delaware legislature and U.S. Congress.

Since DEMEC first joined AMP in 2012, Schlichting has served as an alternate Board Trustee. She also serves on the APPA Board of Directors, where she is an active participant in a number of committees.

“We are proud of the work Kimberly does at DEMEC, on behalf of public power and its customer-owners, and of her contributions to AMP as a Board of Trustees alternate member,” said Marc Gerken, AMP President/CEO. “This award is well-deserved and an attribution to Kimberly’s leadership.”

The APPA is the service organization for the nation’s more than 2,000 community-owned electric utilities that serve more than 49 million Americans.
