COLUMBUS, OH: American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP) is proud to be recognized for its commitment to innovative activities through research, funding and education to improve public power utilities’ operations and services. AMP was presented with the 2020 Award of Continued Excellence (ACE) by the American Public Power Association (APPA) during its Virtual Summit and Business Meeting, June 8–10.

The award recognizes AMP’s continued commitment to the APPA’s Demonstration of Energy and Efficiency Developments (DEED) program and its ideals, including support of research, development and demonstration, improving efficiency, renewable resources and support of public power. 

“One of our top goals as an organization is to assist our member communities with a quickly changing industry, which is why we constantly strive to innovate,” said AMP President and CEO Jolene Thompson. “This award serves as a recognition of the outstanding effort that our talented staff has put into helping our members.”

AMP has been actively engaged in DEED since joining the program in 2003 and has been directly awarded seven DEED grants to date.

“As members of DEED, AMP has provided member communities like my own with new funding opportunities for research, pilot projects and education efforts that we might not have had access to otherwise,” said City of Orrville Director of Utilities and Chair of the AMP Board of Trustees Jeff Brediger.“ AMP has long been a forward-thinking organization and strong supporter of the DEED program, and this recognition is well deserved.”

AMP‘s most recent DEED grant went toward the development of the Public Power Electric Vehicle (EV) Planning Toolkit and Guidebook in partnership with AMP member communities and the Smart Electric Power Alliance. The Toolkit is designed to illustrate the economic impacts of public power fleet electrification and assist with identifying potential increased loading on residential distribution system service transformers from residential EV charging. AMP was recently awarded the Energy Innovator Award, one of three utilities nationally, in recognition of the development of this toolkit.
