COLUMBUS, OH: American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP) is pleased to announce that David L. Wood has joined AMP as Senior Vice President of Transmission Planning and Development.
In this role, Wood will oversee and direct the transmission planning and development functions of AMP Transmission (AMPT) and provide assistance in the oversight and strategic planning of the organization’s transmission assets.
Wood brings to his role at AMP more than 30 years of experience in the industry, including 22 years with Austin Energy, one of the country’s largest public power systems. There he held a variety of leadership roles where he was the executive responsible for engineering, design, construction, maintenance and operation of Austin Energy’s transmission, substation and distribution infrastructure. His experience also includes several years at Actalent Services, where he had oversight for both the distribution and transmission areas of the business.
“David’s experience in the planning, engineering and operation of transmission and distribution infrastructure will be valuable as AMPT works to provide cost-effective transmission services that benefit AMP Members and their customers,” said Pamala Sullivan, AMP chief operating officer and president of AMPT. “He is an executive leader who understands the public power business model and champions cross-functional collaboration.”
As Senior Practice Manager, Distribution, for Actalent Services, Wood was responsible for oversight of distribution, telecommunication and GIS services. In 2022, he fully transitioned to Senior Practice Manager, Transmission, a role in which he was responsible for the organization’s transmission lines and substations, protection and control, right-of-way, and project management for seven centers across North America.
Wood holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Mississippi State University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.
