Annual award recognizes outstanding employee
COLUMBUS, OH: Harry Phillips has been recognized as the American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP) 2024 DNA Award recipient. Phillips is the Director of Marketing/Member Relations and has been with the organization since 2012.
The annual award — sponsored by AMP’s President and CEO — was initiated in 2008 to recognize an employee who advances AMP’s vision and mission — “to be public power's trusted leader in providing Members and their customers the highest-quality, forward-looking services and solutions,” and “to serve Members through public power joint action, innovative solutions, robust advocacy and cost-effective management of power supply and energy services,” respectfully.
“Harry’s dedication and passion for his work personifies what the AMP DNA Award represents — integrity, Member focus, stewardship, partnership, innovation, accountability and employee engagement,” said Jolene Thompson, AMP President and CEO. “Whether he is working directly with Members or collaborating with colleagues, he truly exemplifies AMP’s core values, and we are proud to have him as a member of the AMP team.”
Nominations for the award are submitted by staff in recognition of their fellow employees and include, not just the name of their peer, but the reasons why their nominee should receive the award. Thompson announced Phillips as the 2024 recipient during an all-staff meeting.
During the award presentation, Thompson noted that the nominations from Phillips’ colleagues show that he exemplifies all of the organization’s core values on a daily basis. His peers emphasized that he has an unwavering commitment to excellence; actively seeks out opportunities to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders; is truly dedicated to AMP Members and understanding their needs; and has established a rapport with Members who trust him to keep their best interests in mind.
Phillips oversees AMP’s Marketing/Member Relations Team. He joined AMP in 2012 as Director of Marketing/Member Relations. Prior to that, Phillips was Director of Energy Services at Richmond Power and Light, a municipal utility in Richmond, Ind., for 14 years. He also served as a board member for American Red Cross, Richmond/Wayne County Economic Development and Richmond/Wayne County Environmental Council. Phillips holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Chancellor University and a master’s degree in environmental management from Arizona State University.
To accomplish its vision and mission, AMP employees must believe in, and demonstrate, the core values of the organization: integrity, Member focus, partnership, employee engagement, stewardship, innovation and accountability. These values serve as the organization’s “DNA” and are a critical foundation to its ability to succeed and serve Member communities. The AMP DNA Award recognizes employees who best demonstrate the values/DNA of AMP as a way to highlight to both its staff and Members the importance of the key organizational criteria it strives to meet.
