AMP Recognizes Employee Innovation with Annual Award

COLUMBUS, OH: American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP) is honoring Alexa Ray, a Power Supply Analyst at AMP for the 2024 AMP Employee Innovator Award.

Craig KIeinhenz, Assistant Vice President of Power Supply Planning, nominated Ray for her work in optimizing AMP’s Auction Revenue Right (ARR) portfolio. In his nomination, Kleinhenz wrote that “through her innovative approach and expertise, Alexa significantly enhanced AMP’s ability to derive maximum value from ARRs, delivering meaningful financial benefits for AMP and its municipal Members.”

The AMP Employee Innovator Award was established in 2021 to promote and support “a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the organization.” Given annually, the award recognizes an employee or team of employees for demonstrating innovation through creative thinking, solutions, or programs and/or cost-cutting mechanisms that benefit AMP and/or AMP members.

ARRs are a financial instrument established by PJM Interconnection, the regional transmission organization that coordinates the movement of wholesale electricity in much of the eastern United States. AMP’s participation is essential for maintaining competitive electric rates for its municipal Members. In nominating Ray for the AMP Innovator Award, Kleinhenz noted that her work has resulted in significant benefits for AMP Members. In addition, he stated that her analytic contributions, including several Macros that have automated tasks and increased efficiency, have set a new standard for ARR portfolio management at AMP.

Nominations for the Innovator Award are submitted by staff in recognition of their colleagues and include a description of the nominee’s innovative thinking and how it makes a difference to AMP and/or its Members. The nominees then make presentations to the executive team about their innovative projects. The winner is selected based on three main criteria: how their solution or program connects to AMP’s mission, vision and values; originality and uniqueness; and results, significance or relevance.
