AMP Members Receive National Recognition for Excellence in Public Power with RP3 Designation

Columbus: Several American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP) Member utilities were awarded the Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3)® recognition from the American Public Power Association (APPA) during the association’s annual Engineering & Operations Technical Conference, which took place March 30 through April 2 in Sacramento, Calif.

The RP3 designation, which lasts for three years, recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. Criteria include sound business practices and a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity. This year, 52 of the country’s more than 2,000 public power utilities earned the RP3 designation.

Diamond Level

The following AMP Members received 2025 RP3 Diamond Level (highest level) designation, awarded to utilities that successfully meet 98-100 percent of the RP3 program criteria:

  • Village of Yellow Springs Electric Distribution

Platinum Level

The following AMP Members received 2025 RP3 Platinum Level designation, awarded to utilities that successfully meet 90-97 percent of the RP3 program criteria:

  • Cleveland Public Power
  • Danville Utilities Department
  • Town of Front Royal Energy Services Department
  • Wadsworth Electric Department

“These Member utilities have shown a commendable dedication to system reliability, operational efficiency, safety practices, workforce development and more,” said Michelle Palmer, AMP Vice President of Technical Services and Compliance. “These designations were hard earned and serve as a testament to the work they have undertaken to provide their communities with superior service. AMP congratulates all those have earned this distinction.”

According to APPA, 52 public power communities were awarded RP3 designations during the conference. Nationwide, 252 public power utilities hold the RP3 designation.
