In late 2012, FirstEnergy and American Municipal Power (AMP) announced they had entered into a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) to site, build and operate a natural gas peaking facility located on the grounds of FirstEnergy’s existing Eastlake Plant in Eastlake, Ohio. It now appears unlikely the project will proceed as a result of uncertainty regarding a number of issues, several of which could affect AMP’s financing for the project.

Gerken was installed as President during the association’s annual conference held April 22-24 in Washington, D.C., and will lead the association’s efforts during the coming year.
