American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP) offers energy efficiency and peak reduction services for AMP Members through its Efficiency Smart® program. This proven model has been designed to serve the unique needs of municipal utilities and their customers.
Efficiency Smart helps retail customers save energy and money. The program assists residential customers in lowering their electric bills and making their homes more comfortable. This includes guidance on reducing electric use, discounts on energy-efficient lighting, and rebates for energy-saving appliances.
Each subscribing community is assigned a dedicated account manager who, along with Efficiency Smart engineering consultants, works with business to guide them through all phases of their energy efficiency projects. This includes identifying and prioritizing opportunities to save, reviewing proposals, recommending solutions, providing financial incentives for qualifying projects, and more.
Efficiency Smart is also a tool to help municipal utilities save money. Energy efficiency reduces costs, it reduces waste, and it reduces the overall rate at which utilities buy power. Efficiency Smart provides energy and peak reduction goals for subscribing AMP Member utilities based on their retail electric sales. Megawatt-hour and kilowatt savings are guaranteed at 70 percent of each utility’s established goal. All claimed savings undergo independent savings verification through a third-party evaluation, measurement and verification company hired by AMP.
VEIC, a nonprofit organization that has worked in partnership with AMP since 2008, administers Efficiency Smart on behalf of AMP. Since the program launched in 2011, Efficiency Smart has served more than 65 of AMP’s Member utilities across four states.
